Make memories with the yearbook

Flash forward 30 years: What will your children remember about Brookdale? A few interesting class projects? The teacher who sparked an interest in a new topic? The good friends who made them laugh every day at lunch?
Maybe as they’re helping their own children get ready for the first day of school, they’ll pull out their Brookdale yearbooks. They’ll page through and see the little smiling faces, the pictures from field trips and class parties, the signatures from friends, and they’ll remember so much more. Just think of the stories they’ll have for their children.
Janet LaRocque has organized and edited the Brookdale yearbook for several years, but with her youngest child in fifth grade, she’ll be putting together her last book this year. It’s time, she says, to show the ropes to the next yearbook editor.
Creating the yearbook takes a fair amount of organization, and Janet recommends the volunteer should be comfortable working in Microsoft Word and Excel. And because so many photos are submitted digitally, she suggests a familiarity with Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) for editing photos and organizing them with tags.
A parent interested in taking over yearbook duties would spend this year working with Janet, who is willing to hand down her process and her knowledge of Photoshop. E-mail Janet at janetlarocque@yahoo.com and Vice President Judy Nagel-Conley at jln0522@aol.com to volunteer or ask questions.
Years from now, your children could thank you for helping them make memories.
